5 Weeks Old!!!

Hi Everyone,

We, including the puppies, have all survived Christmas. We hope you had a wonderful Christmas and are anticipating an exciting New Year with a puppy in your home!

The puppies were a huge hit with all of our Christmas company! Our oldest son arrived home from Costa Rica on Christmas Eve day and has enjoyed getting to know all of the puppies. Christmas Day brought lots of extended family to our home and again the puppies got lots of attention. I hope you all realize that these puppies are very well socialized!

We have also given them some new experiences. We took them out into Chamois' dog room and let them roam around. Our dogs sleep on beds made by Kuranda, we call them trampolines, because that is what they look like. The beds are indestructible, are up off the ground, and very comfortable. All of our dogs have loved them. The puppies also loved them. The beds are about 4" off the ground and the puppies loved climbing up and down off of them. We have had all the puppies, not at one time, out in our living room, exploring. They loved the Christmas tree and especially the presents with bows! The ribbon and bows made it easy for them to haul around. Yesterday we took the puppies outside for the first time....brrrrrr....! They didn't know what to think, but it didn't take long and they were off exploring.
We are looking forward to seeing most of you this week as the picking of the puppy begins! Our family has had an extremly hard time picking the puppy we plan to keep. We are beginning to narrow it down - but they are all so cute and have wonderful personalities. It has been hard or impossible for all 4 of us to agree on a puppy or a name!!

3+ Weeks Old

This is a rare occurance anymore that all the puppies are in one spot, holding still enough for a picture! This may be a little like "where's Waldo", so go ahead and count and see if you can see all 9 of them.
They have been pretty much weened from Chamois and they are eating dry dog food - yes they have gotten some of their teeth. They have found their voices too....
The puppies now wag their tales, get up and over the ramp and have found a sock to play with.
We now have deposits on all but one female and one male - so if you are interested in a puppy from this litter - you better hurry!

Introduction of Puppy Food!

We started the puppies on mushy puppy food. They loved it as you can see in the video. We will begin to wean the puppies from constant nursing little by little. That gives Chamois a little bit of a break.
We are now feeding the puppies 4 times a day with puppy food. They act like they are starved! They have all been good eaters.
Some of them have little tiny teeth and are trying to bite each other. They are awake more now, so they show some signs of playing. We have put some toys in their box with them - but they aren't quite ready to play with them yet.
More later.....

2 1/2 weeks old and moving!

Hi Again,
We couldn't resist taking this video last night. All the puppies were awake and moving about. They seem to recognize our voices and want attention as you will see in the latest video. Our whelping box (which replaced our kitchen table) has 2 sides to it. So far the puppies have only been in one side of the box. Separating the 2 sides is a doorway. They are already interested in looking over the railing into the other side of the box, so it won't be long before they begin to try to climb up on the railing and go down the ramp to the other side of the box.
Hope you enjoy this video too!

Two Weeks Old

This was a picture from a few days ago. As we looked at it closer, we laughed because all the girls are together (red, light blue, yellow, pink, purple and green collars) and all the boys are together (black, brown and dark blue collars).

The puppies are 2 weeks old today and they are beginning to get some strength in their back legs and start to walk some. Their eyes have just started to open and you can tell that they are looking around at a whole new world.

Here is the latest video of the puppies eating!

Previous Litter Puppy Reference

"I purchased a pup from Tom in August of 2008. I wasn't really looking for another dog but after doing some research and talking to some of my "Lab Expert" friends I realized that I had an opportunity to have a first Class Hunting Dog. Wyatt is just over a year old and even at his young age he is already a top notch hunting dog. He has drive to hunt like I have never seen in another dog. He is very athletic and never tires. Wyatt is a strong swimmer and has an excellent nose but yet a wonderful family companion. He is not limited to upland birds but his main use to me is waterfowl. In the blind he is very obedient and observant. All my hunting buddies are blown away at his ability at such a young age. I couldn't ask for a better dog for both hunting and a family dog!"

Day 3!
I just got back from taking all of the puppies to the vet to be checked and have their dew claws removed. They all weighed 1# plus! They are all good eaters and got a clean-bill of health from our vet. Chamois and the puppies are all settling down. We had a much quieter night last night! Chamois was very protective the first couple of days and wanted all the puppies right near her....but if one would stray away....she would upset the other 8 to get the one...that made for lots of crying. They are all moving around very well, mostly with their back legs pushing. It is amazing how strong they are and how determined they are to find Mom. All the puppies are within a 1/2 ounce of each other, so we don't seem to have a runt and they can all hold their own when it comes to finding a faucet!
Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving. We are thankful for 9 healthy puppies!

Monday, November 23, 2009

All the puppies were born yesterday, Sunday, November 22nd. It was quite the birthday present for our son, Kyle. He turned 20 yesterday - what a busy day. Chamois started whelping her first puppy at 1:15 p.m. and 9 puppies later, she had her last puppy at 10:08 last night.

So, here they all are. 9 puppies, 6 females and 3 males. They ranged in size from 11.6 ounces to 14.6. They also range in color from very light, almost white, to very dark, which we think will become a fox red color. They are beautiful and very healthy.
Today we have weighed them all and put rick-rack collars on them so we can keep track of them easily. The males have royal blue, black and brown collars and the rest are females! They have all gained weight since yesterday, so we are off to a good start.
Please check back often as we will be updating frequently, and sign-in as a follower.

AKC Labrador Retriever Puppies for sale from pointing bloodlines.

Welcome to Mackinaw Pointing Labs!

We breed Labrador Retrievers from pointing Lab bloodlines. We have had 3 previous litters from GMPR Rik's Risky "Raider" and GMPR Sauk River Featherstorm's "Jake" bloodlines. The great grandsire on both the sire and dam's sides for this current litter is "Raider".

We will be having an all yellow litter in November at Thanksgiving. The pups will be ready to go home the second week of January.

We bred our dam, Sadie's "Chamois" Mae, to APR Sauk River Storm's "Phoenix". Pups from one of Chamois' previous litters include CPR Chamois' "Katie" Mae and APR Verkerke's "Spark" It Up.

Chamois is a 5 1/2 year old, 58 pound, yellow lab with fox red ears from both English and American bloodlines. Chamois has a strong natural point and has hunted ruffed grouse, woodcock, pheasants, quail and chukar extensively. Chamois' father was Minnesota Horse and Hunt Club "Gabe", who was a Grand Master Pointing Retriever, MH and MHR, and her grandfather is a Grand Master Pointing Retriever Rik's Risky "Raider". Please see http://www.cashmankennels.com/ for more information on "Raider".
Chamois is a powerful swimmer, a tireless hunter, and a great family dog.
Chamois' hips are OFA Good and eyes CERF normal.

Phoenix is a 5 1/2 years old, 80 pound, yellow APLA Advanced Pointing Retriever and the son of Grand Master Pointing Reriever (GMPR) Sauk River's Featherstorm "Jake". Phoenix is extremely athletic with a soft mouth, tremendous bird drive and has a very strong instictive scent point. He is also the grandson of GMPR Rik's Risky "Raider" whose bloodlines are highly sought after throughout the mid west. To learn all about Phoenix, go to the Sauk River website at http://www.saukriverlabs.com/
Phoenix's hips are OFA Excellent, elbows normal and eyes CERF normal and tested clear of EIC.

We have an occasional litter because we love the Labrador Retriever breed and especially the pointing Lab. We enjoy having puppies and place their whelping box right in our kitchen! Therefore, all of our puppies are very well socialized as they become part of our family. We have kept 2 pups from previous litters and will keep one from this litter also. This will be Chamois' last litter.

Should you have any questions about our Labrador Retrievers, please e-mail us at tomjohnson@speednetllc.com or call us at 989.686.4645.
We are located in Bay City, Michigan.
